12/05/2022 Newsletter
Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This Saturday, December 10th will bring the highlight of Historic Downtown Yuma’s Christmas season, the annual Dorothy Young Memorial Electric Light Parade. The parade will start Saturday evening at 6 PM on 4th Avenue and have a grand finale on the Main Street Plaza here in downtown. There will be numerous decorated and illuminated floats, marching bands, dancers and of course Santa on his sleigh. The festivities continue well into the evening, with a variety of live entertainment happening on the Plaza. It gets really crowded here by late Saturday afternoon, so plan on getting downtown before then to find a place to park. You can always hang out at the Wine Cellar until the parade gets going!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Senda Verde 2020 Albariño (Rías Baixas, Spain) $19.99
This crisp, dry and wonderfully tangy native Spanish white offers delicate notes of citrus, dried flowers and herbs. Vividly pure white peach, pear, citrus and tropical fruit flavors mingle on the palate. A fresh, lively acidity carries it to a clean, mouthwatering finish.
Delas 2020 Côtes du Rhône Saint-Esprit (Rhone Valley, France) $15.99
Saint-Esprit is made with primarily Grenache grapes sourced from a small village in the southern Rhone. The vineyard’s southerly exposure on steep, granitic hillsides provides a perfect growing environment. It’s a fresh and savory red, with rich fruit flavors accented by spice notes.
Broadside 2019 Merlot (Paso Robles) $15.99
This Merlot starts off with flavors of fresh blackberries, elderberries and dark plums that lead into black cherry on the mid-palate. Balanced with the rich fruit are soft, supple tannins, backed with complex notes of vanilla and clove, finishing with a touch of chocolate.
Penfolds Max’s 2018 Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon (South Australia) $19.99
This deep magenta-hued blend of 70% Shiraz / 30% Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a nose of blackberry and powdered earth. White pepper graces its inky espresso structure, inching its way through bold notes of plum and beetroot. Violets chime in mid-palate, while a meaty grilled sensation is spiced to the “max” on the finish.
Hess Collection 2020 Maverick Ranches Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles) $27.99
The 2020 Maverick Ranches is an enticingly gulp-able mixture of lusciously ripe Cabernet Sauvignon, and darker, sterner Petite Verdot (22% of the blend). It impresses not only for the intensity and vividness of its fruit but also for its round, and yet finely structured palate.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Rutherford Hill 2019 Merlot (Napa Valley) $29.99
From one of Napa’s true specialists with this varietal, this is a complex and well-structured Merlot. Beautifully perfumed plum and black cherry fruit flavors are polished and rich, with fine intensity, depth and length. Smooth and supple tannins support a long, elegant finish.
Poema Brut Cava (Penedès, Spain) $14.99
A true Brut-style Cava, Poema is made from the native grape varietals Macabeo, Xarel-lo and Parellada. Vibrant aromas of ripe peach, Granny Smith apple and toasted bread plus a touch of spice fill the nose. The palate is dry, with a rich, creamy texture. Layers of flavor and spice persist through an elegant finish.
Paul Buisse 2019 Chinon (Loire River Valley, France) $17.99
This Loire Valley Cabernet Franc begins with an enticing aroma full of bright, ripe berry fruit along with hints of dry herbs. The palate is focused on juicy red fruit flavors, with light accents of herbs and a little spice as well. With its soft tannins and balanced acidity this is very easy to drink.
Cheers!
