Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

We’ve reached the end of the road for Year 2020, and like most folks I couldn’t be happier. It’s been a trying year, to say the least, as so many people have been faced with serious financial hardship as well as personal losses due to the ongoing struggle with COVID-19. I’m happy to say that the Old Town Wine Cellar is doing okay, thanks in no small part to the unwavering support I have received from all of my loyal customers in the Yuma community. January will mark the beginning of the 19^th year for the Wine Cellar, and I look forward to many more here in Historic Downtown.

And a quick note: the Old Town Wine Cellar will be open our normal hours Thursday, December 31^st (New Year’s Eve), but we will be CLOSED on Friday, January 1^st, New Year’s Day. We will be back open Saturday, January 2^nd however. And with that, I want to wish a Happy New Year to all, along with my fervent hope for a better 2021 for everyone!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Altemasi TrentoDoc Brut (Trentino, Italy) $21.99

From the Dolomite Mountains of northern Italy, this is a clean, crisp and full-flavored sparkling wine. Apple and pleasant toasty aromas lead on to a rich palate of Golden apple, pear and floral flavors that are fully dry, and supported by fresh, zesty acidity.

Pine Ridge 2020 Chenin Blanc-Viognier (Clarksburg) $15.99

Crisp, bright and vivacious, the ‘CB-V’ is an aromatic white with a bouquet of honeysuckle, orange blossom, grapefruit, white peach and jasmine. In the mouth it’s bright and refreshing, with flavors of citrus, ginger, peach and green apple. The clean finish brings a lingering hint of lime.

Paul Dolan 2016 Estate Zinfandel (Mendocino County) $14.99

This Mendocino Zin exudes alluring aromas of blackberry, black cherry and plum with a touch of black pepper and clove. It follows with jammy fruit from the entry through the mid-palate, finishing up with a swirl of dark raspberry fruit and a light dusting of cocoa.

Seven Hills Winery 2017 Merlot (Walla Walla Valley) $21.99

This wine presents all the classic attributes of Washington Merlots: lush and ripe fruit, a balanced, succulent palate, and friendly accessibility. A small percentage of Cabernet Franc adds floral scents and an intriguing hint of tobacco leaf. The rich, fruit-filled palate is nicely edged with hints of spice.

J. Lohr 2016 Tower Road Petite Sirah Paso Robles $22.99

Vivid, pure blackberry-raspberry-blueberry flavors are terrifically ripe, juicy and deeply concentrated. Full-bodied tannins manage to stay in the background to let a delicious core of dark fruit flavors swirl on the palate. Peppery accents enliven the lasting finish.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Frog’s Leap 2018 Zinfandel (Napa Valley) $32.99

Frog’s Leap 2018 Zinfandel is one for the ages. It’s a wine that draws its power from sophistication instead of simply its alcohol content, crafted in a classic “field blend” style with additions of Petite Sirah and Carignane. It offers tremendous aromatic intensity, alongside rich and polished flavors.

Piper Sonoma Brut Reserve (Sonoma County) $22.99

On the nose; this Sonoma sparkler offers intense aromatics of tangerine, pineapple and pear followed with toasted hazelnuts and butterscotch. It’s rich and creamy in texture, with flavors of citrus, crisp green apple, pear and accents of mineral that culminate in a mouthwatering finish.

1,000 Stories 2016 “Batch Blue” Carignan Bourbon Barrel Aged (Mendocino County) $17.99

This is a very special limited release of 1,000 Stories Bourbon Barrel-Aged Carignan, their first release of Carignan as a single varietal. It’s classic and rustic with a nice little edge. Flavors of brilliantly racy red and black fruits are set to a rich backdrop of toast, herbs and mocha.

Epic Brewing Big Bad Baptist Pecan Pie (Colorado) $17.99

The brewmaster at Epic always loved Aunt Millie’s homemade chocolate and bourbon pecan pie – now just imagine it was a beer! Feel free to indulge yourself with the sweet and satisfying Southern charm of this richly flavored bourbon barrel-aged beer, brewed using cinnamon sugar, cacao, coffee and pecans.

Cheers!
