Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Holiday update: there are just two weeks worth of shopping days left before the arrival of Christmas! Wine (as well as great craft and imported beers & ales) makes a perfect, and very easy gift, so be sure to stop by the Old Town Wine Cellar before it’s too late and pick up some holiday cheer for the folks you care about most (as long as they’re over 21, of course!). Plus, you’ll likely need some fine libations for your holiday parties and get-togethers as well, so all the more reason to venture to Historic Downtown Yuma. And of course, this week’s tasting selections you can try before you buy – we hope to see you soon!

Cadaretta’s SBS blend is a wine designed to be enjoyed in its youth: it’s crisp, fruity and bracing. The nose is intense, with pear and lime aromas and a subtle touch of honeysuckle. A rush of juicy acidity greets the mouth, with a mix of tangy citrus zest and clean, ripe stone fruit flavors.
Frank Family 2016 Pinot Noir (Carneros) $27.99 This Carneros Pinot is a brilliant ruby in the glass, and opens with aromas of cinnamon stick, cardamom and fresh raspberries. On the palate, a soft and balanced structure framed by silky tannins offers rich flavors of wild berries, black plums, violets and baking spices.
Altovinum Evodia 2015 Garnacha (Aragon, Spain) $11.99 Spanish Garnacha (aka Grenache) is typically peppery, zesty and loaded with fresh raspberry fruit. This one exudes fresh aromas of black cherries and crushed raspberries. In the mouth it’s soft and round, with ripe red raspberry and cherry fruit and a light touch of toasty oak.
Altamana 2014 Grand Reserve Malbec (Maule Valley, Chile) $17.99 Altamana Grand Reserve Malbec offers bright aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, black olive and violets. In the mouth it’s velvety yet firmly structured, with abundant black cherry, fig and raspberry fruit followed by accents of cocoa, cedar and licorice that frame a muscular finish.
Starmont 2014 Merlot (Carneros) $22.99 The Starmont Merlot has a ripe and juicy core of blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit. Firm and dry yet elegantly styled, it shows elements of rich spices that accent the ample fruit and add complexity. The round, soft finish carries a light accent of vanilla.
Barone Ricasoli 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Rocca Guicciarda (Tuscany, Italy) $24.99 This Classico begins with fresh black cherry aromas mixed in with hints of leather, earth, plums and violets. The palate is medium in body, with firm tannins and pleasant acidity. Classic Chianti flavors of ripe black cherries and plums are accented by a hint of fennel.
