Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This week’s Wine Cellar schedule is pretty straightforward: we will be CLOSED Wednesday, Christmas Day, and then get back to our regular hours Thursday through Saturday. The Wine Cellar’s Weekly Wine Tastings will go on as usual Thursday & Friday. Have a very Merry Christmas everyone!
THIS WEEK’S WINE TASTING:
Acacia 2017 Chardonnay (Carneros) $21.99 Citrus-laced flavors of baked apple, d’Anjou pear and white nectarine are punctuated by Meyer lemon zest, toasty oak, ginger spice and crème-brulée. This Chardonnay’s silky texture and bright, balanced acidity make it a perfect partner with rich seafood cuisine.
Villadoria 2015 Nebbiolo Bricco Magno (Piedmont, Italy) $17.99 This Langhe Nebbiolo is a beautiful clear garnet in the glass. The nose offers a mix of toasty vanilla, rose petal and spice notes. The palate is velvety and welcoming, with a warm, complex profile of red cherry fruit, licorice, spices and a subtle underlay of earth.
Celler de Capçanes 2014 Mas Donís Old Vines (Montsant, Spain) $14.99 Mas Donis is a blend of 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah, aged for nine months in French and American oak. The Garnacha is sourced from 70-year-old vines. Vibrant cherry and dark berry flavors are edged by vanilla and spice, along with subtle elements of herbs and toasty oak.
Maison Ogier 2015 Côtes du Rhône Artesis (Rhône Valley, France) $16.99 This wine is redolent with violets, dried herbs, assis and raspberries. The palate is smooth and enticing, offering black cherry, raspberry and currant fruit flavors, framed with hints of violets, herbs and earth. It comes to a bright, persistent finish with a kick of peppery spice.
Qupé 2015 Syrah (Central Coast) $19.99 This is a vibrant Syrah, overflowing with ripe black fruit on the nose, followed up by notes of pepper and oak. Vivid fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and stewed plums are tinged with accents of mocha, expresso and cinnamon that come to a firm, lingering finish.
Truchard 2016 Merlot (Carneros) $29.99 Truchard Winery’s Carneros estate consists of 380 acres of gently rolling hills, with a variety of soils: clay, shale, sandstone and limestone. The combination of terroir, geology and marine-moderated climate makes it an ideal growing location. This Merlot offers bright aromas and flavors of blueberry, plum and black cherry, with pleasant spice accents.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS:
Austin Hope 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Robles) $39.99 Deep ruby in color, this offers aromas of fresh-picked black currants, cherries and berries, with notes of violets and mocha. In the mouth, it’s a big. powerful, modern-styled Cabernet with ripe, juicy wild berry and cherry fruit and accents of spice and vanilla that swirl on a long, smooth finish.
Jadix 2018 Picpoul de Pinet (Languedoc, France) $14.99 This wine, made entirely from the Picpoul grape varietal, exhibits a yellow color with shimmering flashes. An intense, complex nose offers notes of ripe fruits, citrus peel, honey and white flowers. It has a rich yet lively feel in the mouth, with a remarkably crisp freshness that holds thru the finish.
Route Stock 2017 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $24.99 Routestock’s Sonoma Coast Pinot opens with scents of sweet blackberries and ripe red cherries, and hints of cedar forest with a light note of rose petal. The palate offers rich, vivid flavors of freshly picked wild berries and exotic Asian spices, yet the wine displays elegance and balance.
Joel Gott 2015 Palisades California Red $15.99 Joel Gott’s Palisades Red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Malbec and Cabernet Franc sourced from three separate regions of California: Lake County, Monterey County and Lodi. Rich dark fruit flavors and smooth tannins with just a light touch of toasty oak make this red delicious by the glass or with dinner.
