Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Just a quick reminder, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (Tuesday the 14th to be exact). Don’t forget a card, of course, but you really need more. There’s nothing wrong with flowers or candy, but at the Old Town Wine Cellar we think good wine is a great way to go. We have a lot of fine choices that will let your valentine see that you really care – Champagnes, dessert wines, great Napa Cabernets, or whatever else you think he or she might find appealing. There’s a lot to choose from here at the Cellar, and you still have plenty of time to come downtown and make your selection. And why not enjoy a wine flight or a glass while you do – we hope to see you soon!

Tenuta Polvaro 2020 Pinot Grigio (Venezia, Italy) $16.99

Tenuta Polvaro is located northeast of Venice, close by the Adriatic Sea. In this warmer micro-climate, grapes grown on the estate attain a richness rarely found in Italian Pinot Grigios. This exhibits citrus and floral scents on the nose and bright flavors of green apple and Bartlett pear on the palate, with a delightfully long finish.

Black Magnolia 2021 Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley) $19.99

Black Magnolia Pinot Noir has a complex bouquet of dark raspberries, sweet earth, leather and notes of fresh cinnamon. The palate is true to Oregon, with lots of fresh berries and cherries balanced by a touch of spice, and finishes with vibrant acidity.

Domaines Paul Mas 2019 Reserve Rouge (Languedoc, France) $15.99

The Paul Mas Reserve Languedoc Rouge is a juicy blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. Aromas of plum jam, fig, savory herbs and baking spices lead to a satiny, vibrant and fruit-laden palate. The captivating lavender and cinnamon finish brings in a nice kiss of toasty oak.

Querceto 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Liocorno (Tuscany, Italy) $22.99

This Classico begins with fresh black cherry aromas mixed in with hints of leather, earth, dark plums and violets. The palate is medium in body, with firm tannins and pleasant acidity. The classic Chianti flavors of ripe red cherries and plums are accented with a hint of fennel.

Martin Ray 2020 Synthesis Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $39.99

Synthesis Cabernet offers a bouquet of dried herbs plus bold red and black fruits like berries, figs and baked spiced plums. It’s a beautiful marriage of the softer, more approachable structure of fruit from valley floor growing sites, and the denser, chewy tannins more typical of mountain-side vineyards.

Delas 2020 Crozes-Hermitage Les Launes (Rhone Valley, France) $29.99

Les Launes exudes vibrant aromas of spice-tinged raspberries and wildflowers that pick up a hint of olive as the wine opens up. It’s juicy and nervy in style, with a gently sweet blackberry and cassis character and a light degree of spiciness, plus a hint of violets on the finish.

Catena 2018 Vista Flores Malbec (Mendoza, Argentina) $17.99

The Catena Vista Flores Malbec offers ripe, concentrated dark and red fruit aromas with delicate floral notes of lavender and violets. The mouthfeel is rich and full, with notes of sweet spices and a hint of old leather. The finish is carried along with smooth, well-integrated tannins.

Olianas 2020 Cannonau di Sardegna (Sardinia, Italy) $19.99

This supple, multi-layered Cannonau (the local name for Grenache) is made entirely in amphorae from organically grown grapes. The wine overflows with red and black fruits, subtle spice tones and herbal notes. In the mouth it’s round and rich with silky tannins and a long, complex finish.

The Hop Concept Tropical & Juicy IPA (San Marcos) $4.99

The fourth beer in the “Hop Freshener” series, Tropical & Juicy is brewed with Eureka, Galaxy, Vic’s Secret and Citra hops, creating a bouquet of stone fruits, mango and tangerine. An initial burst of juiciness on the palate leads to a light grapefruit-y bitterness, with hints of spice from the hops and a clean, lightly sweet malt undertone.
