FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Rodney Strong Vineyards 2019 Upshot White (Sonoma County) $17.99
Upshot is the result of a passion for creating flavorful, deeply nuanced blended wines. This bright white bursts with aromas of peaches, apricots, and jasmine blossom with flavors of melon, peach and a complex, ‘wet stone’ minerality leading to a crisp and refreshing finish.
Joel Gott 2021 California Pinot Noir $18.99
Joel Gott Pinot Noir offers bright cherry and deep, earthy flavors accented with spice and subtle oak tones carried on a delicate texture. Aromas of cherry and raspberry mix on the nose with hints of spice. Dark cherry and black tea flavors linger on a long, elegant finish.
Fattorie Melini 2020 San Lorenzo Chianti (Tuscany, Italy) $16.99
The Melini family has been making wines in Chianti since 1705. Their San Lorenzo Chianti is a vivid ruby-garnet color in the glass, with a fine bouquet of raspberries and cherries plus accents of violets and irises. Flavors of dark cherry, wild forest berries and almonds are full and savory.
Folie à Deux 2017 Merlot (Alexander Valley) $17.99
Sourced from premium vineyard sites in the cooler areas of Sonoma’s Alexander Valley and aged for 10 months in French oak, this soft and approachable Merlot displays rich, ripe dark cherry and wild berry flavors with enticing hints of vanilla and chocolate.
Ironstone 2019 Reserve Cabernet Franc (Sierra Foothills) $24.99
Ironstone Reserve Cabernet Franc is a full-bodied, hefty red with aromas of red currants and lavender. On the palate, fleshy flavors of juicy blackberries and plums are framed with subtle touches of sweet oak and cedar. It’s a superb rendition of this rather neglected red varietal.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Silverado Vineyards 2019 Merlot, Mt. George Vineyard (Napa Valley) $37.99
This offers aromas of savory herbs (bay leaf & thyme) with earthy tobacco leaf notes and sweet clove. The wine hits the palate with a silk-smooth texture and bright, juicy red fruit flavors of berries and pomegranates. Well integrated oak, earth and spice complement the fruit and swirl on a long, complex finish.
Cave de Lugny 2020 Mâcon Les Charmes (Burgundy, France) $19.99
This opens with a fine bouquet of grapefruit, green apple and Meyer lemon. It’s brisk and racy on the palate, with flavors of grapefruit, pear, apple and lemon, a touch of minerality and just a hint of fresh-mown hay. This is a Chardonnay that’s totally about peak acidity and pure fruit, finishing crisp, clean and dry.
Old Soul 2020 Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi) $12.99
This Old Vine Lodi Zin exudes aromas of sweet vanilla, fennel and ripe blueberries and boysenberries. It’s lush and juicy on the palate, overflowing with ripe, brambly wild berry fruit flavors that culminate in a long finish with spice and peppery notes.
Ettaler Kloster-Dunkel (Bavaria, Germany) $5.99
The Klosterbrauerei Ettaler Dunkel greets the palate with a delicate tanginess, carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonizes beautifully with nice undertones of hoppy bitterness. A classic Bavarian dunkel, it concludes with a brisk and refreshing finish.
Cheers!
