Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

It’s a quiet week here in Yuma as Spring has arrived along with some rather windy days. But the winds will subside and our beautiful spring weather in the Desert Southwest will soon be with us, for the next few months at least. All the more reason to get out and enjoy it before the heat of another Yuma summer hits. Hopefully that will include some time strolling around Historic Downtown Yuma, and of course stopping by at the Old Town Wine Cellar for a tasting, a nice glass of wine or perhaps a cold craft brew. We hope to see you soon!

Domaines Schlumberger 2018 Riesling Les Princes Abbés (Alsace, France) $22.99

This juicy, crystalline Alsatian Riesling exudes a classic, aromatic nose of lime, mineral and peach. It leads on to a crisp and focused palate that deftly blends its chalky, stony framework with refreshing citrus and white pear flavors. The finish is long and fully dry.

Banshee 2019 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) $21.99

The fruit for the Banshee Pinot is sourced from the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley appellations. The wine opens with an alluring bouquet of dark cherry, mint, dried flowers and spices. It’s silky smooth and medium-bodied on the palate, with a very subtle oak influence.

Pertinace 2016 Barbera d’Alba (Piedmont, Italy) $17.99

This opens with brightly perfumed aromas of ripe strawberries and dried flowers. On the palate, it’s elegant and balanced, with a layered profile of spice, leather, licorice and black fruit flavors, silky tannins and a chocolate, coffee and raspberry aftertaste.

Bodegas Garzón 2018 Tannat Reserva (Punta del Este, Uruguay) $17.99

For textbook modern Uruguayan Tannat, look no further. A ripe dark fruit aroma melds with flowers, while this is smooth and balanced on the palate. Blackberry and spicy plum flavors are lightly touched by oak and peppery spices, with a fine lingering finish that brings it all home.

Anthony Terlato 2016 Dueling Pistols Red (Paso Robles) $34.99

A 50/50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah, this is a deep violet with scarlet highlights in the glass. On the nose, aromas of ripe dark cherry and black currant fruit have a background of floral and spice notes. On the palate a dense core of black fruit flavors is wrapped in a cloak of soft, velvety tannins.

Beringer 2018 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon $24.99

A sexy concoction of chocolate, plums, sweet cherries and currants, this sensually textured Cabernet offers soft tannins, a medium to full body, a sweet mid-section and a long, heady finish. The lavish application of oak adds both spiciness and a creamy richness to the palate.

Wild Song 2019 Sauvignon Blanc (Hawkes Bay, New Zealand) $12.99

This Kiwi quaffer offers aromas of zesty lime and passionfruit, with a touch of fresh herbs. The vibrant palate offers a core of tangy fruit leading to a juicy finish. It’s ideally suited for shellfish, salads, citrus-based dishes, ocean voyages and lounging on sunny afternoons.

Maddalena 2020 Merlot (Paso Robles) $14.99

Maddalena Merlot offers a ripe, juicy core of blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit. Firm and dry yet elegantly styled, it shows elements of rich spice that accent the fruit and add complexity. The round, soft finish carries a light touch of vanilla.

Stella Rosa Rosso Royale (Piedmont, Italy) $12.99

Stella Rosa Royale offers the classic Rosso flavor, but gives them an elevated twist with a higher alcohol content and a rich, smooth finish, Bursting with fresh flavors of ripe strawberries and red raspberries, it’s the perfect wine for any occasion – just remember to serve it well chilled!
