3/29/2021 Newsletter
Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
In line with Governor Ducey’s new executive order issued last week that removed the facemask mandate and business occupancy restrictions in Arizona that have been in force since last summer, I just want to let everyone know that the Wine Cellar will no longer require patrons to wear a mask upon entering the Cellar. During the time were closed for tastings last year, we removed some wine racks and spread out our seating quite a bit, so if you have been in the Wine Cellar since you know that we have a pretty good degree of separation now for our customers who stay to enjoy a wine tasting or wine by the glass. I do think things are definitely looking up with regard to situation we’ve all been dealing with for the last year. So let’s all keep thinking positive and making progress. I’ll drink to that!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Silvio Jermann 2018 Pinot Grigio (Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy) $22.99
Silvio Jermann is famous for crafting some of Italy’s finest white wines in this cool and mountainous region close by Austria. This is a fresh Pinot Grigio, medium-bodied and creamy, with a minerally underpinning and an array of poached pear, spring forest and grated ginger flavors and a rich finish.
Head High 2018 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) $19.99
This bright, elegant Pinot Noir is made with grapes from premier vineyards in Sonoma, including Durell and Gap’s Crown. Scents of black cherry fruit and leafy, earthy notes emerge initially. The palate has impressive depth and power, with accents of black tea and cedar, and a thread of smoke on the finish.
Rodney Strong 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County) $17.99
This elegantly crafted and finely balanced Sonoma Cabernet exudes raspberry and blackberry aromas, with touches of spice, cedar and vanilla. Rich black fruit flavors mingle on the velvety palate, and delicate accents of eucalyptus linger at the finish.
Palacios Remondo 2016 La Montesa (Rioja, Spain) $19.99
The La Montesa is 92% Garnacha and 8% Tempranillo, sourced from the Palacios Remondo estate vineyards. It opens with aromas of ripe red fruits and light notes of vanilla and toasted oak. The palate is smooth and silky, with dark plum and cherry flavors plus a hint of licorice.
Leeuwin Estate 2017 Siblings Shiraz (Margaret River, Australia) $22.99
Bright flavors of black currant, dark cherry and boysenberry are all classic Shiraz, along with accompanying accents of cardamom, anise and cedar. The polished palate has balanced acidity and firm, drying tannins. Subtle notes of chocolate, freshly roasted coffee and pepper chime in on the finish.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Flowers 2018 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $49.99
Sourced from vineyards throughout this cool weather appellation (closest to the ocean), this garnet gem has expressive aromas of dark plums, black tea, herbs and sweet tobacco. A mouthful of dark berries, orange rind and spiced licorice is edged by a fine touch of salinity and mineral, reflecting the oceanside terroir.
Domaines Schlumberger 2018 Riesling Les Princes Abbés (Alsace, France) $22.99
This juicy, crystalline Alsatian Riesling exudes a classic, aromatic nose of lime, mineral and peach. It leads on to a crisp and focused palate that deftly blends its chalky, stony framework with refreshing citrus and white pear flavors. The finish is long and fully dry, inviting another sip…
Fattorie Melini 2018 San Lorenzo Chianti (Tuscany, Italy) $14.99
The Melini family has been making wines in Chianti since 1705. The San Lorenzo Chianti is a vivid ruby-garnet color in the glass, with a fine bouquet of raspberries and cherries plus accents of violets and irises. Flavors of dark cherry, wild forest berries and almonds are full and savory.
Modern Times Brewing Caliban Hazy IPA (San Diego) $4.99
Fact: Nelson hops are super bomb. To that end we applied them liberally to this IPA, for a profile replete with bright tropical fruit, berries, lemons and crisp citrus. This is practically guaranteed to improve your immediate point of view!
Cheers!
