Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This Saturday evening, April 30th, the Yuma Art Center presents Checkr’d Past! in concert at the Historic Yuma Theatre. Here’s the promo: “A tribute to the music video era, Checkr’d Past! brings you the decade of the 80’s in all its glittery glory! All the great bands and one-hit wonders of MTV’s golden age: Gary Newman, Thomas Dolby, Modern English, Wang Chung, Duran Duran, Devo, Men at Work and many more… just as you remember them. It’s so close to the real thing you can taste it. You lived it. Now live it again!”

Wow. Sounds like a can’t-miss-this opportunity to relive a great decade – I know I sure enjoyed it. The doors open at 6:30PM and the show starts at 7:00. Tickets are $25; call the Art Center box office at 373-5202 for more info. What a great way to wrap up the month of April here in Historic Downtown Yuma. And be sure to stop by the Wine Cellar Saturday afternoon for a pre-show glass of wine!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Fazi Battaglia 2020 Verdicchio (Le Marches, Italy) $12.99

Pale straw in color with faint jade hues, this central Italian white gives off an intense bouquet of fresh peaches and apples, with a slight scent of roses. On the palate it’s clean and dry, with refreshing acidity and a hint of bitter almond at the finish, typical of Italy’s Verdicchio varietal.

Dave Phinney Locations IT (Italy) $19.99

Locations IT by Dave Phinney is a blend of Negroamaro, Nero d’Avola and Barbera. The wine opens with an aromatic nose of black cherry, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, cedar and evergreen. A silky-smooth entry is met with a richly textured palate of fig and wild berries.

Maddalena 2020 Merlot (Paso Robles) $14.99

Maddalena Merlot offers a ripe, juicy core of blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit. Firm and dry yet elegantly styled, it shows elements of rich spice that accent the fruit and add complexity. The round, soft finish carries a light touch of vanilla.

Clos de Los Siete 2018 Red Blend (Valle de Uco, Argentina) $18.99

This Malbec-dominated blend is a deep red in the glass, shot through with the purple glints. On the nose, an intense and complex aromatic expression exudes notes of blueberries, lavender and spice. In the mouth, tannins are assertive yet ripe, framing a fruit-filled palate that’s juicy, caressing and refined.

Kuleto Estate 2016 India Ink (Lake County/Napa Valley) $22.99

A mixture of Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Merlot, this wine is made for pure indulgence. India Ink is richly flavored and hedonistic. On the nose, lush scents of ripe red fruits and spice are framed with hints of smoke and earth. Vivid black fruit flavors on the palate are complemented by hints of black pepper, cedar and dark chocolate.

Copain 2016 Les Voisins Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) $27.99

The 2016 “Les Voisins” Pinot Noir reflects the focus and concentration that this vintage is renowned for. Aromas of black cherries, star anise and sweet tea leaves greet the nose. On the palate, flavors of raspberry compote and red currants are met with accents of forest floor and vanilla on a lush and silky texture.

Simi 2019 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast) $22.99

Simi’s Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is an exquisite reflection of how this premier growing region’s varied microclimates can produce truly superior wines. Cooler evenings bring crisp acidity while warmer afternoon temps impart flavors of lemon and orange peel, resulting in a rich and elegant Chard.

The Lost Abbey Noble Tendencies Pilsener (San Diego) $4.99

This is a clean, crisp and refreshing Pilsner, starting with bright biscuit notes, then finishing smooth and balanced thanks to Noble Hops. May it help guide you through whatever may lie ahead, be it Noble or not. Hops are 100% Saaz, malts are Bohemian Pils and Munich.
