Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

Memorial Day Weekend arrives at the end of this week, so for all intents and purposes summer is well and truly here. While a lot of folks head out of town for the holiday weekend, plenty of others like myself will stay around town, and (finally!) get together with friends and family to celebrate the start of summer with plenty of good food, beverages and camaraderie. Here at the Wine Cellar we specialize in the beverage part, with lots of excellent wines and craft & import brews to help make your holiday weekend that much more enjoyable. So stop by this week and stock up. I think this week’s wine tasting selections would all be great weekend options – come in and give them a try!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

John Anthony Vineyards 2019 Sauvignon Blanc (Carneros) $19.99

Aromas of Fuji apple, lychee nut, honeydew melon and tangerine blossoms on the nose. On the palate, ruby grapefruit, yellow peach and tropical fruit flavors provide a crisp and clean character that’s framed with hints of lemon grass, citrus, and jasmine tea.

Browne Family 2016 Heritage Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley) $21.99

This Oregon Pinot Noir offers a rich bouquet of red and black fruit with floral accents, plus scents of red plum, dark cherry and candied violets. The palate offers a juicy fruit-forward entry, followed by a round and lively palate full of dark berry fruit and hints of cherry and jasmine.

Delas 2018 Côtes du Rhône Saint-Esprit (Rhone Valley, France) $15.99

Saint-Esprit is made with primarily Grenache grapes sourced from a small village in the southern Rhone. The vineyard’s southerly exposure on steep, granitic hillsides provides a perfect growing environment. It’s a fresh and savory red, with rich fruit flavors accented by spice notes.

1,000 Stories 2016 Bourbon Barrel Aged Carignan (Mendocino County) $17.99

This is a special limited release of 1,000 Stories Bourbon Barrel-Aged Carignan, the winery’s first-ever release of Carignan as a single varietal wine. Flavors of brilliantly racy red and black fruits are set to a rich backdrop of toast, herbs and mocha.

J. Wilkes 2016 Zinfandel (Paso Robles) $27.99

The J. Wilkes Paso Robles Zinfandel delivers all the varietal’s typical raspberry and black cherry fruit, earthy and spicy/peppery tones, and a character that begs for meals cooked outside on the grill. It’s a fresh and delicious example of true California classic.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Roth Estate 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley) $22.99

Roth Estate 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is bold, full-bodied and rich. The nose offers vivid aromas of black cherries, cassis and sweet oak. Rich and layered flavors of red currant, blackberry, chocolate and vanilla ride on firm tannins, gaining power as the wine ends in a memorable, lasting finish.

Cass Winery 2018 Mr. Blanc (Paso Robles) $17.99

A blend of Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier, Mr. Blanc exudes a perfumed bouquet of baked apple, poached Asian pears and crushed rose petals. Focused acidity along with a distinct minerality makes for a complex palate, with flavors of Golden apple, spiced quince and chamomile tea that weave through the refreshing finish.

Astoria Sparkling Moscato Rosé (Italy) $14.99

The Astoria Sparkling Moscato Rosé is a rich pink in color with small, soft bubbles. Delicate aromas of strawberries, raspberry and violets lead into ripe, juicy berry flavors with a hint of honey, all framed with a delightful sweetness.

Cheers!
