Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

4th of July Weekend 2021 is coming up on us fast, and I just want to let everyone know that this year there will be no changes to make note of for the Old Town Wine Cellar. July 4th is next Sunday, so the holiday will be observed Monday the 5th. The Wine Cellar is closed as a matter of course both Sunday and Monday, so this week’s business hours will be the same as usual, Tuesday through Saturday. So if you’re staying around town for the holiday weekend, be sure to stop by and check out our usual great selection of wines and craft beers to make your holiday festivities complete. And take some time to sample this week’s wine selections while you’re at it!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Paul Mas 2019 Picpoul de Pinet (Languedoc, France) $14.99

This wine, made from the Picpoul varietal native to southern France, exhibits a yellow color with shimmering flashes. An intense, complex nose offers scents of ripe fruit, citrus peel, honey and white flowers. It has a rich yet lively feel on the palate, with a wonderful freshness that holds on through a crisp finish.

Arienzo de Marques de Riscal 2016 Rioja Crianza (Rioja, Spain) $12.99

A traditional mix of 96% Tempranillo and 4% Graciano, this Crianza offers bright aromas of strawberry, cherry and blackberry plus a touch of spice. The palate is fresh and savory, showing ripe red fruits plus a nice measure of toasty oak.

Angeline 2018 Reserve Merlot (Paso Robles) $15.99

This Merlot opens with flavors of fresh blackberries, elderberries and dark plums that lead into black cherry on the mid-palate. Balanced with the rich fruit are soft, supple tannins, backed by complex notes of chicory and clove, finishing with a hint of cocoa dust.

Penfolds Max’s 2018 Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon (South Australia) $19.99

This deep magenta-hued blend of 64% Shiraz and 36% Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a nose of blackberry and powdered earth. White pepper graces its inky espresso structure, inching its way through bold notes of plum and beetroot. Violets chime in mid-palate, while a meaty grilled sensation is spiced to the “max” on the finish.

Frog’s Leap 2018 Zinfandel (Napa Valley) $32.99

Frog’s Leap 2018 Zinfandel is one for the ages. It’s a wine that draws its power from sophistication instead of simply its alcohol content, crafted in a classic “field blend” style with additions of Petite Sirah and Carignane. It offers tremendous aromatic intensity, alongside rich and polished flavors.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Trefethen 2018 Double T Red (Napa Valley) $21.99

Trefethen’s ‘Double T’ Red is comprised of all of the classic Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. 100% estate-grown, it was aged for 16 months in French oak (15% new) and shows rich, textbook Napa flavors of black currant, wild berry and toasty oak.

Gérard Bertrand 2018 Brut Rosé (Crémant de Limoux, France) $17.99

A blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir, this Crémant boasts a beautiful, salmon-pink color, with brilliant reflections. A bouquet of strawberry and raspberry fruit is backed with hints of toasted bread. Lots of delicate bubbles, plus a brilliant vivacity in the mouth make this a memorable wine.

Ava Grace 2019 Sauvignon Blanc (California) $8.99

Ava Grace Sauvignon Blanc boasts plenty of tropical fruit flavors, with balanced acidity. Fresh aromas of grapefruit, gooseberry and melon fill the nose, while the rich body leads to a refined finish on the palate.

Cheers!
