Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

A happy 4th of July to everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing, if somewhat toasty Independence Day holiday weekend here in the Desert Southwest, or maybe a cooler one if you elected to spend the weekend elsewhere. And I hope we’ll see you later this week at the Old Town Wine Cellar here in Historic Downtown Yuma. Until then, cheers and Happy Birthday America!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Chateau de Montfort 2020 Vouvray (Loire Valley, France) $21.99

Made from 100% Chenin Blanc grapes, this is a wonderfully aromatic white with an intensely floral nose of wildflowers, plus orchard fruit aromas of apples and pears. On the palate it’s round and juicy, with just a hint of sweetly ripe fruit nicely balanced with a crisp, lively acidity.

Acrobat 2019 Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley) $19.99

This Pinot displays a garnet-colored center with ruby edges in the glass. On the nose, rich, fruit-forward aromas of Bing cherries and red raspberries emerge, with a hint of hazelnuts. The palate echoes with flavors of ripe strawberries and dark chocolate up front, plus earthy/spicy hints of forest floor and clove.

Frescobaldi 2019 Pian di Remolè (Tuscany, Italy) $11.99

Remolè is a blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine opens with fragrant scents of red and black fruits, lifted by spicy impressions of black pepper and licorice. The entry is velvety and warm and the flavors on the palate are well balanced, with a satisfying vein of acidity.

Bodegas Muriel 2016 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain) $18.99

This wine opens with the classic cherry, vanilla and tobacco leaf tones that Rioja reds are famous for. In the mouth, spicy dark cherry and berry fruit flavors mingle with a touch of vanilla and anise, with a pleasant note of toast from two years of oak barrel aging.

Opaque 2017 Darkness Red (Paso Robles) $29.99

This blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Grenache is sourced from estate vineyards in the Paso Robles appellation. After aging in a combination of French and American oak for 12 months, this hand-crafted artisan wine gives ripe flavors of raspberry and blackberry, with spicy vanilla notes. Enjoy the darkness!

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Penfolds 2019 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon (South Australia) $59.99

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet comes remarkably close to their luxury Bin 707 Cab in terms of quality but at a much friendlier price point, offering a full, rich character and firm but velvety tannins. Cedar, spearmint, and mocha accents swirl on a base of superbly concentrated black currant, wild berry and plum fruit, with subtle oak accents.

Siduri 2019 Chardonnay (Willamette Valley) $22.99

This Willamette Valley Chardonnay offers aromas of white flowers, orange blossoms and stone fruits. In the mouth, a generous flavor burst of Meyer lemon is backed by pineapple accents, along with touches of brioche and vanilla, interwoven on a long, succulent finish driven by vibrant acidity.

Vigneti del Salento 2020 I Muri Primitivo (Puglia, Italy) $14.99

This Puglian Primitivo offers a Zinny array of spicy black and red fruit aromas with light herbal notes. The tannins are gentle, balancing the ripe richness of the fruit with a touch of freshly roasted coffee, ending with a hint of licorice on the finish.

Alesmith Brewing Funwave Hazy IPA (San Diego) $4.99

Funwave Hazy is packed with bright notes of pineapple, passionfruit, and mango from the massive amounts of Vic Secret & Citra hops. The tropical aromas instantly whisk you away on a fun-tastic voyage through hints of citrus. Remind your tastebuds to pack their bags, as you’re about to ride the flavor wave. Cheers!

Cheers!
