8/01/2022 Newsletter
Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
August has arrived, and with that we can look forward to another “First Friday” here in Historic Downtown Yuma. Retail stores and many other businesses will remain open until at least 8PM, and of course all our downtown eating & drinking establishments will be going strong (the Wine Cellar will certainly be among them). So try to make it downtown this coming Friday, and be sure to stop in at the Cellar when you do!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Schlumberger 2019 Pinot Blanc Les Princes Abbes (Alsace, France) $18.99
Bright, fresh aromas of kiwi fruit, lemon zest and pear, accented by a background hint of green apple mix on the nose of this Alsatian Pinot Blanc. Ripe tropical fruit and nectarine highlight the vibrant flavors. The lithe palate combines superb balance with a crisp finish.
Banshee 2019 Pinot Noir (Sonoma County) $21.99
The fruit for the Banshee Pinot is sourced from the Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley appellations. The wine opens with an alluring bouquet of dark cherry, mint, dried flowers and spices. It’s silky smooth and medium-bodied on the palate, with a very subtle oak influence.
Spellbound 2019 Petite Sirah (California) $14.99
Once one of the most widely planted grapes in California, Petite is famous for its inky color, lush texture and wild berry character. This one is reminiscent of a fresh baked cherry cobbler, with mocha and coffee accents added in.
Qupé 2018 Syrah (Central Coast) $19.99
This is a vibrant Syrah, overflowing with ripe black fruit on the nose, followed up by notes of pepper and oak. Vivid fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and stewed plums are tinged with accents of mocha, expresso and cinnamon that come to a firm, lingering finish.
Chelsea Goldschmidt 2019 Merlot (Alexander Valley) $24.99
Sourced from Nick Goldschmidt’s Guidestone Rise Vineyard, the 2019 Chelsea Merlot is deep and assertive, showcasing the varietal’s black fruit and hearty side. Showing assertive tannins at first pour, with some air it gains smoothness and approachability, while retaining its husky, serious wine bona fides.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Domäne Wachau 2020 Riesling Federspiel (Wachau, Austria) $24.99
Federspiel Riesling reflects the cool climate and rocky soils of Austria’s Wachau Valley. Orange peel flashes its aromatic headiness from the glass. The palate displays a similar citrus focus: zesty lemon blends in with ripe notions of mandarin, orange and tangerine. This is vibrant, clean, tangy and wonderfully aromatic, as well as exquisitely light and dry.
Beronia 2017 Rioja Crianza (Rioja, Spain) $15.99
The Beronia Crianza begins with bright aromas of currants, cherries and a hint of vanilla. The palate delivers rich and velvety flavors of dark cherries and red raspberries, along with a pleasant note of vanilla-laced oak toast on the finish.
Erdinger Weissbräu Weissbier Dunkel (Bavaria, Germany) $5.99
The Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel inspires the palate with a delicate tanginess carried by a round, soft body. A light caramel sweetness harmonizes beautifully with fine undertones of hoppy bitterness. A classic Bavarian dunkel, this concludes on a soft and refreshing note.
Cheers!
