Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Just as August is getting close to wrapping up, so is the 2022 Lutes’ Summer Jazz Series. This Friday evening, August 26th marks the last concert in the biweekly series of live performances here in Historic Downtown Yuma by the Yuma Jazz Quartet at Lutes’ Casino (221 S. Main St.) I see this last show for the summer will feature some surprise guests as well. Show time is 7 and it goes until 9PM; free for all ages as always. So stop by the Wine Cellar for a nice glass or two this Friday, and then head on down the street to enjoy some great live jazz!
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Monchhof 2019 Estate Riesling (Mosel Valley, Germany) $19.99
This Riesling opens with lush aromas of limes, apples, peaches and pineapples, followed by deep flavors of ripe tropical fruits, peaches and just a hint of honey. Refreshing acidity balances a fine, just ‘off-dry’ finish that lingers on the palate.
Copain 2016 Les Voisins Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley) $27.99
Aromas of black cherries, star anise and sweet tea leaves greet the nose. On the palate, flavors of raspberry compote and red currants are met with accents of forest floor and vanilla on a lush and silky texture.
Beronia 2017 Rioja Crianza (Rioja, Spain) $15.99
The Beronia Crianza begins with bright aromas of currants, cherries and a hint of vanilla. The palate delivers rich and velvety flavors of dark cherries and red raspberries, along with a pleasant note of vanilla-laced oak toast on the finish.
Daou Vineyards 2020 Pessimist Red (Paso Robles) $19.99
Pessimist is primarily Petite Sirah, along with some Zinfandel and Syrah. It’s broad and expansive on the palate, with lush, generous flavors of ripe dark cherry, blueberry, crème de cassis and a hint of forest floor. Hints of lavender, anise and black olive complement the
rich fruit in this massive yet elegant red.
Beringer 2019 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon $24.99
A sexy concoction of chocolate, plums, sweet cherries and currants, this sensually textured Cabernet offers soft tannins, a medium to full body, a sweet mid-section and a long, heady finish. The lavish application of oak adds both spiciness and a creamy richness to the palate.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Rombauer 2019 Zinfandel (California) $39.99
This classic California Zin offers concentrated aromas of dried cherries that meld with warm vanilla, mocha and mulling spice on the nose. Lush flavors of dark plums and raspberry jam flood the palate, followed with a touch of dark chocolate in the background. Subtle, smooth tannins frame a long and enticing finish.
Joel Gott 2021 Sauvignon Blanc (California) $14.99
This is fresh and fragrant, with bright, tangy ruby grapefruit, sweet lime, gooseberry and citrus blossom aromas on the nose. There’s plenty of depth and dimension to the flavors as well, with a fruit-filled palate of citrus and tropical fruits leading to a crisp, clean finish.
Joel Gott 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (California) $17.99
This full-bodied Cabernet delivers rich layers of lush fruit and silky, well-integrated tannins. The mid-palate is juicy, with dark fruit, mocha and spice flavors. The wine is supported, but not dominated by oak – adding a nice toasty edge to a supple, graceful and balanced texture.
and finally, the long-awaited return of an old favorite!
Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier (Bavaria, Germany) $4.99
This Bavarian wheat beer is a hazy gold-amber in the glass and offers the classic hefeweizen aromas of citrus and banana. It has a deliciously yeasty / wheaty flavor profile, delicate carbonation and a briskly refreshing quality from the first sip to the last.
Cheers!
