Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
Kind of quiet here in Historic Downtown Yuma as (hopefully) the summer starts winding down now that we’ve reached the last week of August. I do see that this Friday and Saturday, August 27-28th, the Hilton Garden Inn here in downtown will host Yuma’s 14th Annual Hip Hop Festival, presented by Jazz of Yuma, Inc. There will be workshops at the Hilton’s Pivot Point Conference Center from 6 to 8PM on Friday and 9AM to 3PM Saturday, then a show Saturday evening at 7PM at the Historic Yuma Theatre (254 S. Main Street). For more info, follow Dawn’s Dance Studio/Jazz of Yuma’s Instagram and Facebook pages for upcoming details or contact Dawn’s Dance Studio at 928-329-6858 (Instagram: @dawnsdancestudio website: www.yumahiphop.org
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Pine Ridge 2020 Chenin Blanc-Viognier (Clarksburg) $15.99

Pali 2017 Riviera Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $19.99
Pali’s 2017 Riviera Pinot has a bright bouquet of plum, fresh raspberries, wild blackberry, lavender and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is rich and redolent of black fruits, with fresh dark raspberry, black pepper and a backdrop of mineral accents.
Cantina Zaccagnini 2018 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (Abruzzo, Italy) $17.99
This native southern Italian red is an intense ruby red in hue, with a rich bouquet of blackberries and flowers. The flavors are lavish and rich; a mix of dark cherries and plums with elements of rhubarb, cocoa and coffee. The mouthfeel is velvet-soft, with mellow tannins.
Dave Phinney CA Locations Red $19.99
Dave Phinney’s Locations is a blend of Tempranillo, Barbera, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache, sourced from diverse California regions including Napa Valley, Sonoma, Mendocino and the Sierra Foothills. It offers intensely ripe berry fruit along with pepper and herbal notes and a light touch of toasted oak – savory, luscious and opulent.
Seven Hills Winery 2017 Merlot (Walla Walla Valley) $21.99
This wine presents all the classic attributes of Washington Merlots: lush and ripe fruit, a balanced, succulent palate, and friendly accessibility. A small percentage of Cabernet Franc adds floral scents and an intriguing hint of tobacco leaf. The rich, fruit-filled palate is nicely edged with hints of spice.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Martinelli 2018 Vigneto di Evo Zinfandel (Russian River Valley) $34.99
The 2018 Vigneto di Evo Zin offers fresh aromas of raspberry compote, dark chocolate and star anise. On the palate, elegant tannins frame layers of ripe dark cherry, blackberry and sweet oak flavors. Hints of baking spices linger at the finish.
Bischöfliche Weingüter Trier 2016 Riesling (Mosel Valley, Germany) $22.99
Zesty evergreen and herb notes lend fine freshness to bright flavors of Meyer lemon and nectarine in this Mosel Riesling. The palate builds in floral, fruity intensity. The wine is delicately sweet, yet still brisk with citrusy acidity and a refreshing finish.
Baladin Isaac Witbier (Blanche) (Piozzo, Italy) $5.99
This witbier, or blanche offers pleasantly citrusy and subtle aromas of spices that gradually intensify as the beer becomes warmer. When finally sipped it releases a beautiful mixture of cereals and citrus fruits. The finish is slightly herbaceous, giving this a tantalizing, peppery ending.
Cheers!
