Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
This week brings the official first day of Fall, and if you use your imagination it’s starting to feel a bit like it, especially right before the sun rises in the morning. Thankfully the Yuma summer is starting its inevitable fade into autumn as the days grow shorter and the evenings cooler. All the more reason to venture forth and see what Historic Downtown Yuma has to offer. And the highlight of our great downtown has got to be the Old Town Wine Cellar! So come down this week to enjoy our increasingly mellow early Fall weather and take a stroll down Main Street – odds are you’ll end up right here in the Cellar…
FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK
Tangent 2020 Albariño (Edna Valley) $16.99
Made in the traditional style of a Rías Baixas Albariño, but with a Pacific Ocean twist, this is full of crisp vibrancy. Aromas of guava and citrus peel jump from the glass. The clean mouthfeel is beautifully balanced, with white peach and zesty grapefruit flavors that come to a refreshing finish.
Sassoregale 2018 Sangiovese (Tuscany, Italy) $15.99
A perfect expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, this shows classic varietal aromas of spiced black cherries, accented with subtle hints of dry herbs and earth. On the palate, a bath of sweet red currants is supported by gripping tannins, finishing up with a savory richness.
Paul Mas 2020 Reserve Rouge (Languedoc, France) $14.99
Paul Mas’ Reserve Rouge is a delicious mix of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, offering ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit, notes of savory kitchen spices and very well-handled oak. France’s Languedoc is a hotbed of value these days, and Paul Mas is am extremely reliable name.
Austin Hope 2020 Quest Red (Paso Robles) $21.99
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the Quest Red offers a nose of fresh berry fruit that’s nicely edged notes of vanilla and caramel. On the palate, rich fruit flavors of berries and plums come to a long, silky French-vanilla ending.
Gust 2020 Pinot Noir (Petaluma Gap) $42.99
Sonoma’s Petaluma Gap AVA close by the Pacific features windswept hills and cold ocean breezes. The Gust Pinot Noir offers a seductively smooth texture with vividly assertive black cherry, berry and plum fruit, bright but not overbearing acidity, and an elegant finish that lingers beautifully.
NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS
Violetta 2017 Barolo (Piedmont, Italy) $34.99
This Barolo offers a delicate and alluring bouquet of red raspberry and strawberry. The palate shows all the classic Nebbiolo character of ripe dark cherry and currant edged by savory accents of dried herbs, earth and fennel, on a dry palate and a firm tannic frame.
Bravium 2020 Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) $24.99
Bright floral and golden apple aromas lead into pure, concentrated melon, peach and lively citrus flavors complemented by hints of toast and mineral. Rich and full-bodied, yet very elegant and finely structured, this has a clean, refreshing finish, highlighted by light notes of spiced apple and vanilla.
Chateau Sainte Eulalie 2020 Minervois (Languedoc, France) $17.99
The Plaisir d’Eulalie (a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan) is full of dark berry and plum fruit flavors, beautifully wrapped in soft tannins. Dense, yet smooth on the palate, the 2020 offers dense fruit flavors and a long finish, with berries, violets, pepper and garrigue.
Cheers!
