Greetings from the Wine Cellar:

This weekend brings Yuma’s 10th annual Tacos & Tunes Music Festival Friday, September 24th and Saturday, September 25th at Desert Sun Stadium, presented by Los Caballeros de Yuma. Which is great news, but I especially want to let everyone know about the Tacos & Tunes Pre-Party here in Historic Downtown on Thursday evening, September 23rd. The pre-party will go from 6 to 9PM on the Main Street Plaza. There will be great live music with performances by Kimba Light along with roving Mariachis, and of course the Famous HOT HOT Salsa Contest. It sounds like a great way to welcome the arrival of Fall in the Desert Southwest (at least according to the calendar…) Hope you can make it Thursday, and be sure to stop by the Wine Cellar if you do.

Also, I want to congratulate Robert Emmett, the lucky winner of the drawing for a bottle of nice Napa Valley red at the Yuma Community Expo a week ago Saturday. Robert, your bottle awaits here at the Cellar. Hope to see you soon!

FEATURED WINES THIS WEEK

Fruit & Flower 2018 Chardonnay (Washington State) $16.99

This Washington State Chardonnay offers ripe pear and green apple aromas on the nose. Flavors of ripe orchard fruits unfold on the palate, with a nice undercurrent of citrus blossom and bergamot. Moderate acidity gives a pleasantly juicy lift to the brisk finish.

Chamisal Vineyards 2015 Estate Pinot Noir (Edna Valley) $27.99

Intense, opulent scents of red cherries and spicy plums mingle with hints of Mission fig and rose petals, showcasing the distinctive Chamisal spice. Bieler Père et Fils 2019 Côtes du Rhône La Jassine (Rhone Valley, France) $14.99

This blend of the classic Rhone varietals Grenache and Syrah has a nose of dark cherry fruit and spice aromas, framed by the classic Provence notes of rosemary, thyme and sage. A lavish palate of dark berry fruit with a snap of spicy licorice is nicely supported by soft, round tannins.

Kunde 2017 Zinfandel (Sonoma Valley) $19.99

This estate-grown Zinfandel invites you in with aromas of black currant, blackberry, gingersnap and violets. Expansive flavors of blackberry and plum, plus a light tingle of cinnamon are a joy on the palate. Bold and packed with flavor, the 2017 vintage is marked particularly by its rich and lengthy finish.

Marques de Riscal 2015 Rioja Reserva (Rioja, Spain) $22.99

The Riscal Rioja Reserva is deep ruby in the glass, offering a nose of ripe cherries and violets with hints of spice and vanilla. Rich dark fruit flavors with exotic touches of leather and spices predominate on the palate, perfectly framed with firm tannins.

NEW WINE & BEER ARRIVALS

Double Diamond 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Oakville, Napa Valley) $79.99

Double Diamond is a new label from Napa’s renowned Schrader Cellars. Much of the fruit was sourced from the famed To Kalon vineyard. It’s deep garnet-purple, springing from the glass with aromas of crushed dark cherries, warm cassis, wild blueberries and dark chocolate. The rich palate is supported by plush tannins, ending with a long and spicy finish.

Cambria 2018 Julia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir (Santa Maria Valley) $19.99

Julia’s Vineyard was planted in 1991 in the heart of the Santa Maria bench of northern Santa Barbara County. The 2018 vintage is classic Santa Maria Valley Pinot, offering a bright beam of black cherry, strawberry and pomegranate fruit. An underlying savory quality balances the sweet fruit with a spicy backdrop.

Klosterbrauerei Ettal Helles (Bavaria, Germany) $5.99

Ettaler is one of the last remaining authentic monastic breweries, owned and operated by the monks of the Holy Order of St. Benedict since 1330. Their Helles is a classic example of the style, with bready malts well balanced by noble hops. The result is a refreshing, crisp, complex and delicious lager beer.

Cheers!
