Greetings from the Wine Cellar:
I want to let everyone know that the Old Town Wine Cellar’s website is now officially up! The site (www.yumawine.com) has actually been in existence for a long time, but it’s been “under construction” for more years than I care to mention – you know how it is, just too many other priorities kept getting in the way. But with the able assistance of my good friend and web guru Jon Perry, owner of Yuma’s Imaginary Friends Design Studios, the Cellar’s website is finally ready for primetime (Jon is a very talented local graphic
artist and web site designer – check out his own website sometime at www.neverseeme.com). Take a look at the new Wine Cellar site and let me know what you think – I appreciate any and all feedback, positive or not. I think it’s looking pretty good, but you know there’s always room for improvement…
THURSDAY & FRIDAY WINE TASTING – $5.00 to try all six, or $5.00 for a full glass:
The Infamous Goose 2010 Sauvignon Blanc (Marlborough, New Zealand) $10.99
Infamous Goose is lively and bright, a textbook Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It has an intense bouquet of citrus fruits and freshly picked herbs. Crisp and dry on the palate, this wine offers pure, up-front and very tangy gooseberry and lime fruit flavors supported by racy acidity.
Bright Light 2009 California White (Sonoma / Monterey) $10.99
The Bright Light is a clean and fresh white, with bright peach, pear, lychee and melon tones seamlessly woven with jasmine and honeysuckle tones. The flavors are bolstered by tongue-grabbing acidity and a long finish, jazzed with just a slightly bitter hint of lemon peel.
Francis Ford Coppola 2009 Director’s Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) $17.99
Coppola’s Director’s Pinot Noir boasts an intense bouquet of fresh strawberries, with hints of orange peel and black tea. The supple palate
offers a pure impression of ripe strawberries and raspberries, complemented by a touch of lavender and fragrant notes of clove and sandalwood.
Rocca delle Macie 2007 Chianti Classico (Tuscany,
Italy) $17.99
This Classico begins with fresh black cherry aromas mixed in with hints of leather, earth, plums and violets. The palate is medium-bodied, with supple
tannins and good acidity. The classic Chianti flavors of ripe dark cherry and plum are accented by a dash of licorice on the finish.
Graziano 2006 Zinfandel (Mendocino County) $14.99
This Mendocino Zin exudes deep aromas of black cherry, boysenberry, plum and spice, with a hint of toasty oak. Flavors of plum and dark cherry and a subtle earthiness combine to give this full-bodied wine a deliciously rich mouth-feel. Rich, full tannins and a balanced acidity lead into an elegant, lingering finish.
Layer Cake 2006 Côtes du Rhône (Rhone Valley, France) $15.99
100% Syrah, this offers plenty of rich, forward fruit, but it’s accented by pleasant tones of earth and mineral that speak “Old World” terroir. The result is an elegant, balanced wine with flavors of ripe blackberries and black currants plus hints of savory herbs.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY “PREMIUM POUR” ($10.00 a glass)
Girard 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) $29.99
This vintage showcases the forward, ripe rich fruit and polished tannins for which Napa Valley is most prized. On the nose, juicy blackberry and currant fruit tones mix with hints of sage, anise, cocoa and mint. A full-bodied palate exhibits fine but firm tannins, providing a nice counterpoint to the abundant fruit.
NEW ARRIVALS:
Helfrich 2007 Pinot Gris (Alsace, France) $12.99
This is a creamy and aromatic example of Pinot Gris, exuding orange blossom, ruby grapefruit and apricot aromas and flavors, and a hint of toasted coconut. Lightly tangy acidity and a deft note of minerality keeps it risk and wonderfully refreshing.
Sterling Vineyards 2009 California Meritage $10.99
Sterling’s Meritage Red is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot grapes sourced from some of California’s finest appellations. This richly textured wine offers delicious flavors of black cherry, chocolate, black currant and spicy vanilla.
Ravenswood 2008 Old Vine Zinfandel (Napa Valley) $17.99
This Napa Zin is robustly ripe and flavorful, with bright aromas of black raspberries and eucalyptus on the nose leading into a silky, fruity-yet-dry
palate of tangy wild berry and dark plum fruit flavors. Spicy hints of clove, cardamom and cedar mingle on the finish.
Cheers!
